Community Pure Water purification centers use a highly efficient five-stage water purification system to removes over 99% of contaminants.

Our versatile and efficient five-stage water purification system can be adapted to conditions throughout rural India to remove over 99 percent of pathogens and contaminants and produce between 4000 and 8000 liters of safe, clean water a day. Altogether, CPW water purification centers provide more than 120,000 liters of water per day, with the capacity to provide even more.

In this system, as water passes through the first three stages, sand, charcoal, and micron filters, progressively smaller particulate matter is filtered from the source water.

After the initial filtration stages, the water then passes through a reverse osmosis membrane. Normally, when two solutions are separated by a semipermeable membrane, osmosis will pull water from the lower-concentrate solution across the membrane to the higher-concentrate solution. By pressurizing the higher-concentrate solution, RO filtration systems reverse this process (hence “reverse osmosis”), transferring pure water across the RO membrane and leaving remaining contaminants behind.

Finally, the water is disinfected by high-intensity light in the ultraviolet spectrum that kills bacteria, viruses, and parasites that may have passed the filtration and RO stages. The result is safe, clean water with less than 100mg Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) per liter, below international guidelines of 500mg/ltr.
